The 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) for the Regional Intergovernmental Council (RIC) serves as a long-range roadmap for transportation investment across the Charleston, West Virginia Metropolitan Planning Area (Kanawha and Putnam counties).
This document is a blueprint for directing federal, state, and local dollars toward projects that will address all modes of travel, including highways, transit, bicycles, pedestrians, rail, and freight. Developed with extensive community input, the financially constrained plan prioritizes maintaining existing roadways, reducing congestion, and improving safety and mobility for all users through the year 2050.
The MTP was adopted by the RIC Policy Board on November 6, 2025.
